Israeli Defense minister Ehud Barakadded to the propaganda offensive aimed at Syria today when he said arch nemesis Hezbollah will receive chemical weapons after the al-Assad regime falls.
“The moment the regime there falls, we’ll be following these things, but at the end of the day it is very difficult to predict what will happen there,” Barak told a group of young people.
“The Assad family is slaughtering its people, with the support of the Iranians and Hezbollah and the world is silent,” he said, according to Haaretz.
Barak was joined by other voices in the Israeli establishment warning of the dubious threat of Syria’s weapons of mass destruction.
Israeli General Staff Deputy Chief Major General Yair Naveh told a radio station that Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile may end up in the hands of al-Qaeda or Hezbollah, Russia’s RIA Novosti reports today.
Prior to Naveh’s remarks, Ayoob Kara, a senior member of Netanyahu’s ruling Likud Party, told Israel Radio that the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria has used “chemical weapons against men, women, and children” over the last few months.
Kara said he saw photos of victims of chemical warfare attacks. He said Israeli doctors treating wounded on Syria-Turkey have documented the injuries.
Kara also said chemical weapons may find their way into the hands of the opposition. He said “recent reports indicated that the armed groups fighting against the Syrian government have found access to and plan to use chemical weapons, acquired from Libya. According to a June 10 report by Russia Today, the armed rebels plan to use the chemical weapons against civilians and then attempt to blame Damascus for the atrocity,” according to Press TV.
In late May, a Syrian television analyst, Taleb Ibrahim, said the Free Syrian Army received chemical weapons from “mercenary gangs” in Libya and planned to use them against the government.
In January, it was reported that MI6, the CIA, and British SAS are in Syria working with the Free Syrian Army and the Syrian National Council to overthrow the al-Assad regime. The Free Syrian Army is widely recognized as a creation of NATO. It is comprised largely of militants from the Muslim Brotherhood and is funded, supported, and armed by the United States, Israel, and Turkey.
On May 31, Infowars cited eye witness accounts revealing that the Free Syrian Army is responsible for the massacre in al-Houla. The establishment media immediately blamed the gruesome incident on the Syrian government despite the fact an investigation has yet to assign blame for the massacre. A Syrian investigation concluded that the massacre was the work of the CIA and MI6 backed opposition and was carried out against al-Assad supporters.

In 2009, Syria denied it has a stockpile of chemical weapons. “Of course Syria has no chemical weapons. They (Americans) have been talking for years about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. But so far, the presence of these weapons has not been confirmed,” said Syrian foreign ministry spokeswoman Bouthayna Shaaban.
Israel has signed but not ratified the CWC. It is believed Israel’s offensive chemical weapons program is located at the Israel Institute for Biological Research in the city of Ness Ziona.
“I have no doubt that Israel has worked on both chemical and biological offensive things for a long time,” former U.S. deputy assistant secretary of defense responsible for chemical and biological defense, Bill Richardson, said in 1998. “There’s no doubt they’ve had stuff for years.”
